The Papacy in Early and High Middle Ages (8th-13th centuries) 3104-WH15HKCH-RM-OG
The lecture is connected with many topics such as medieval history, history of the medieval art, history of the medieval literature (Polish and foreign), phenomenology of religion and anthropology of culture.
Here are the most important problems discussed in the lecture:
1. The papacy in the patriarch system in the Early Middle Ages.
2. The papacy and the Carolingians - political and religious relations.
3. The papacy and Empire in the Middle Ages.
4. Famous falsifications in the early Middle Ages: Constitutum Constantini and Pseudo-Isidorus.
5. The papacy in the 10th century: internal crisis and relations with Ottonian Germany.
6. The papacy and Cluny.
7. The Gregorian Reform.
8. The Eastern Schism.
9. The Centralization of the Church - the Roman court, the papal legates and the Ecumenical Councils.
10. The papal theocracy and its crisis.
11. The papacy and new orders: Cistercians and Regular Canons.
12. The Papacy and the Mendicants.
13. The Papacy and heresies.
14. The Inquisition.
15. The Papacy and Central Europe.
