Professional Skills for Philologists 3020-WPF-OG
The aim of the course is to awaken the student’s sensitivity to issues of correct language usage both in oral speech and in writing, and also to inculcate the habit of checking doubtful forms as well as of paying attention to clarity of formulation at utterance and text level, logical coherence, responsible use of sources, conscientiousness in quoting, terminological consistency and typographical accuracy.
The student learns where to look for answers to his questions concerning correct usage, how to use dictionaries, language companions, internet resources and corpora to this purpose, and how to consult language helplines. Students are also instructed in the methodology of writing scholarly papers and the correct way of shaping references and bibliography.
