Polish Language and Literature as a subject of the International Baccalaureate (IB) at A1 3007-MMJ-OG
Participation in the class should prepare students to work as International Baccalaureate (IB) teachers of the Polish literature and language. During the class we will discuss the IB program requirements, its assessment criteria, specifics of the IB examination process as well as challenges which IB students and their teachers face during the realization of the program.
Main topics:
IB program:
– structure of the teaching process, selection of the course subjects
– evaluation system, specific criteria
– lecture list (Polish and World literature)
Realisation of the program:
– analysis of the literary work in the IB program
– commentary and essay in the IB program
– construction of the written tasks in the IB program
Final exams:
– World literature essays
– oral exams (commentary of a text known beforehand)
– written exam (commentary of a text unknown beforehand)
–written exam (essay on the basis of the texts from the lecture list discussed during the program)
– extended essay (written assignment on a selected topic)
Challenges for IB students and their teachers
To get a credit students will need to actively participate in the class, submit small written tasks such as introductions to practical exercises or discussions

Students will be prepared to work as teachers in the IB system
After the class students:
– recognize the IB program structure, are familiar with procedures applied during the IB examination process, understand assessment criteria and schemes
– analyse independently literary texts using the principles of the IB program
– recognize and explain mechanisms of the analysis of the literary text In the IB program
– apply terms and notions necessary to analyze in details a piece of literary work and to produce a commentary or an essay
– prepare independently an oral or written commentary to a new text (unknown beforehand)
– produce independently a World literature comparative essay
– can offer a class according to the IB principles and regulations
Assessment criteria
Continuous assessment (attendance, participation in a class), short written assignments, exercises, World literature essay
