Knowledge of Bulgarian arts 3005-SZTUBUL-OG
The course is intended to provide students with general knowledge of fundamental areas in Bulgarian art and aesthetics. Basic notions in art history are introduced, i.e. those of Bulgarian iconography, painting, architecture, sculpture, artistic craftsmanship, literature and music. Themes of traditional and modern Bulgarian art and aesthetics (from its origins to the present day) will be discussed in historical perspective and in their cultural context. Selected phenomena of aesthetics in Bulgarian culture will be presented in detail. Students are also provided with basic analytical background to interpret various works of art (including iconographic analysis). They gain awareness of the place of Bulgarian artistic canon in the context of cultural phenomena of the area and in Europe.

Knowledge:
After completing the course, the student is very familiar with the specifics of Bulgarian art. He also knows the basic terminology of the concepts of art history and theory, methods of analyzing Bulgarian cultural texts from various spheres of practice. Understands the interrelationships between art, literature, language, politics and their historical contexts, and identifies the factors determining the formation of the symbolic sphere of Bulgarian culture. The student also understands the relationship between the formation and the current state of Bulgarian culture and the cultural and institutional European context.
Skills:
After completing the course, the student is able to analyze and interpret a work of fine arts, is able to indicate the realizations of an artistic style characteristic for a given era and expand the context of its creation, define inspirations and external influences. He can also analyze the most important artistic phenomena and movements in Bulgaria in the context of the present day, as well as in a diachronic perspective. The student can also use various sources and works of fine arts to analyze social and cultural phenomena in Bulgaria.
Social attitudes and competences:
After completing the course, the student is ready to learn and understand the specificities of Bulgarian culture. He can also critically evaluate cultural phenomena and refer to various research methods and theses contained in theoretical texts.

- attendance (students are entitled to 2 absences per semester)
- preparation of presentation on a given topic
- active participation in class proving knowledge of reference material
- validating the semester test and the final test
