Prerequisites (description)

The aim of the lecture is to present the most important processes and key facts determining the development of Greek civilisation in the Hellenistic Age, confronted with the state of the art. The starting point is the reign of Alexander the Great, the lower chronological limits of the lecture will vary depending on the subject: in the case of pure political history, the discussion will end with the fall of the Ptolemaic monarchy, in the case of socio-cultural developments - at the turn of the 1st cent. AD.

Learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of the lecture, the student is able to recognise the most important historical processes of the Hellenistic Age, and is able to identify cause and effect relationships between important phenomena of culture and mentality of the people of the epoch. He/she is able to independently assess the importance of the Hellenistic Age in the history of civilisation.

Assessment criteria

Lecture.

Written examination in the form of a short selection test.
