Jews Under Partition 2900-JSL-ZPZ-OG
Chronological framework as well as the range of topics is defined in the group syllabi for a given didactic cycle. The lectures expand the knowledge of students gained due to individual work and fulfillment of another requirements of the program. In general, the lectures present the material connected with the ongoing research of the lecturer and thus bring the newest scientific findings to the academic teaching. During the lecture, students are provided with knowledge about the state of research and new methodological trends. Students learn about different scholarly approaches and their interpretations.

- has knowledge of the most pertinent topics from history of Jews who lived in the territories of the former Commonwealth since its partitions until the beginning of World War One
- understands political and social contexts of the lives of Jewish communities on the specified territory and in the above defined time period
- is aware of the significance of the cultural and social changes that the Jewish community underwent at that time
- possesses the knowledge about the participation of Jews in cultural, academic and political live
Skills
- is able to characterize main research problems in political history and cultural history of Jews under partitions
- is able to use correctly the terms that define Jewish institutions and other phenomena from the 19th century Jewish history
- is able to synthetize the knowledge of the history of Jews under partitions in order to discuss the significance of the 19th century for the present-day conditions of the Jewish diaspora and the state of Israel
Social competence
- notices and understands the characteristic diversity of research methodology of Jewish history and culture
- notices and understands the complexity of the mutual relations of Jews with non-Jewish social environment and the role that the anti-Semitism played in these relations
- understands the process of the emergence of the stereotype of the Jew in the 19th century and is able to critically respond to it
- notices and values the diversity of Jewish life in the 19th century
