Establishing and running a business 2400-ZEWW842-OG
During the synchronous and asynchronous classes, participants become familiar with the range of issues relevant to business planning and its foundation. The main aim of the course is to equip participants with the knowledge necessary to start their own business and to avoid frequent mistakes made by inexperienced entrepreneurs. During the classes, participants will also be able to look on their own qualities and develop the entrepreneurial attitude.
Lesson 1: How to prepare to start your business?
During the first synchronous classes in the course, the following topics will be discussed:
Advantages and disadvantages of running your own business.
Why do so many companies go bankrupt within a year of being founded?
What mistakes are most often made by inexperienced entrepreneurs?
How to prepare and what to think about before starting a business?
Lesson 2: Creative entrepreneur – what does it mean?
During this asynchronous lesson on the e-learning platform, psychological aspects of creative problem solving, and innovation will be discussed. The lesson (in the form of a mini-workshop) will help participants to see their creativity and better understand its role in creating innovation. Participants will learn about the Harvard Manage Mentor, simple but effective innovation planning method.
Lesson 3: Before we start, i.e. SWOT and TOWS analysis.
During this asynchronous lesson on the e-learning platform, participants will learn the SWOT analysis method. The classes will have a theoretical part in the form of video material and a practical part. Participants will conduct a sample SWOT analysis.
Lesson 4: Formalities are easy, if you know what to do – we are setting up a company!
During this asynchronous lesson on the e-learning platform, participants will learn about formal and legal aspects of starting a business. They will learn, step by step, how to register their own company and what formalities are required by polish Social Insurance Institution and Tax Office.
Lesson 5: Legal forms of business activity - advantages and disadvantages.
During this asynchronous lesson on the e-learning platform, various legal forms of running a company in Poland will be discussed. The discussion aims to support participants in choosing the one that best suits their needs.
Lesson 6: EU funds, how to figure it out?
During this asynchronous lesson on the e-learning platform, participants will familiarize with issues related to the practical and formal aspects of obtaining EU funding for running a company and implementing various projects.
Lesson 7: Start-up. Specifics, financing, examples.
Is every company a start-up? During this asynchronous lesson on the e-learning platform, participants will know the basic information about start-ups and the specificity of their functioning and financing.
Lesson 8: Does It Pay Off. Elements of economic analysis and more – Workshops?
During synchronized classes, participants will have the opportunity to practice the knowledge they acquired during the stand-alone classes. The exercises will be carried out independently and in groups.

After completing the course, participants:

• they have knowledge about selected sources of financing enterprises and start-ups, including financing from EU funds.
• they know the methodology of SWOT and TOWS analysis.

After completing the course, participants:
• are aware of the advantages and disadvantages of running their own business.
• they know what issues should be considered before setting up a company.
• are able to analyze their situation in terms of opportunities and threats.
• understand the role of creativity in the search for innovation.
• are able to carry out a basic analysis of the profitability of a project with the use of basic economic indicators.
• are able to make a critical SWOT analysis of opportunities and threats.
• know and are able to apply the Harvard Manage Mentor innovation planning method.
Social competences
After completing the course, participants:
• are able to realistically assess their strengths and weaknesses and work on personal development.
• assesses their expectations regarding business activity and the role of the entrepreneur.

• are aware of the role of persistence in achieving goals.
• • better understands the relationship between planning, market variables and the risk of running a business.
Assessment criteria
Participants are assessed on the basis of three elements:
- presence, attendance and participation in on-line meetings,
- accomplishment of asynchronous lessons and tasks on the Moodle platform,
- and the result of the final test.
To pass the course, the student must obtain a minimum of 60% of each of the above.
