A cultural history of childhood 2300-HD-OG
The main purpose of the lecture is to analyse and to discuss with students the selected subjects from the history of education, family life, private life and educational practice in the 20th century Europe. The purpose is also to exchange ideas on educational practice with students, often teachers, educators etc. The main ideas is to show an educational practice of the past as a source of an educational practice of today: their sources, traditions, didactical innovations, their eventual use in schools of today. During the classes we will analyse the textual sources, as well as pictures with children, their position in a social and family life, old schoolbooks. We will consider the possibilities of their use in the school practice and causes of their popularity up to 19th century.

Learning outcomes
In the course of the lectures students will get to know the methods and working tools of a researcher of the educational studies and history of education from the Middle Ages to the 20th century.
Lectures of a monographic character present educational and historical key problems in the educational theory and practice.
Course aims to develop critical thinking skills, familiarize students with educational and historical criticism of various types of sources (educational treatises, textbooks, movies). Moreover, classes develop critical reading and academic discussion as well as opinion making skills.
Assessment criteria
Conditions to earn a credit for the course are as follows: attendance, active in-class particiaption, essay, and regular preparation accoring to the list.
Practical placement
