Contact hours:
- participation in classes held in the classroom (28 hours)

Prerequisites (description)

No basic knowledge about football is expected from participating students, however basic interest in general sport would be an advantage. The course is designed to accommodate students of different background and origin, including diverse socio-cultural approaches towards football and experiences with it.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge
Student should:
- explain at an advanced level the role of individuals and social groups in football as a social institution and characterize the social, political, and cultural interactions within communities associated with European football from both historical and contemporary perspectives (K_W02)
- explain at an advanced level the historical, economic, social, and cultural determinants of European football and characterize their significance for the political dimension of football and its relationship with political life (K_W04)

Skills
Student should:
- analyze the causes, development, and consequences of selected political phenomena related to European football and explain the role of social, economic, and cultural structures in shaping them (K_U01)
- analyze and assess social, cultural, and political phenomena related to European football in relation to the principles of democracy, civil society, and political culture (K_U02)
- apply basic theoretical approaches and selected social science research methods and techniques to analyze and diagnose political phenomena related to European football (K_U03)
- use English at B2 level to analyze, discuss, and explain the social, political, and cultural aspects of European football, using appropriate academic terminology (K_U09)

Social competences
Student should:
- be ready to critically evaluate social, political, and cultural phenomena related to European football from multiple perspectives and to take account of the relationships and interdependencies between them when formulating one’s own assessments (K_K03)

Assessment criteria

Formal requirements for passing the course:
Attendance: a maximum of 3 unexcused absences is permitted; 4th and every next absence deduct 2% each from the final test score.

Final written test: student must obtain at least 51% score (26 out of 50 points).

Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools: Level 1 – No AI. Artificial Intelligence tools may not be used during classes.

Methods of assessing course learning outcomes:
Final written test (closed, semi-open and short open questions)
- Learning outcomes assessed: K_W02, K_W04, K_U01, K_U02, K_U03, K_U09, K_K03
- Wieght and maximum score: 100% of the final grade

Grading scale
- 100% of points: 5! (celujący / excellent)
- 91-99% of points: 5 (bardzo dobry / very good)
- 81-90% of points: 4+ (dobry+ / good+)
- 71-80% of points: 4 (dobry / good)
- 61-70% of points: 3+ (dostateczny+ / satisfactory+)
- 51-60% of points: 3 (dostateczny / satisfactory)
- 50% of points and below: 2 (niedostateczny / fail)

Important note: any kind of academic dishonesty (especially intellectual property infringement) will be immediately reported to the disciplinary bodies of the University of Warsaw and will result in a final course grade of 2.
