Course Objectives:
To present the historical and contemporary development of Japan’s economic policy.
To analyze the Japanese model of capitalism and its evolution.
To understand the role of the state in Japan’s economic development (MITI, METI, industrial and trade, fiscal, and monetary policies).
To explore Japan’s response to global economic and social challenges.
To examine key issues facing Japan’s economy in the 21st century.

Learning outcomes
After completing the course, students will be able to:
Understand the major stages of Japan's economic policy development,
Analyze the mechanisms of government intervention in the Japanese economy,
Identify key economic institutions and their roles in policymaking,
Critically assess the successes and failures of Japanese economic policy,
Recognize current challenges including demography, debt, and economic stagnation, or challenges of the energy policy.
