Water management under climate change and increasing anthropogenic pressure 1900-GWWZK(KZ)-OG
In recent years, water resources have been subjected to significant pressure, primarily due to ongoing climate change, manifested through rising air temperatures, altered precipitation patterns, and an increased frequency of extreme events. The quantity and quality of water resources are also strongly affected by human activity, which leads to river channel regulation, the introduction of both point and diffuse sources of pollution, as well as changes in land cover within river catchments. These combined impacts result in the transformation of the hydrological and thermal regimes of rivers, more frequent occurrences of low flows, reduced recharge of aquifers, declining water quality, and a decrease in habitat diversity. The aim of the lecture is to provide a synthetic overview of selected contemporary issues in water resource management in lowland areas (with particular emphasis on flowing waters), related to climate change and increasing anthropogenic pressure. The lecture will also discuss, using selected case studies, methods of mitigating the negative effects of climate change and human activity—focusing on nature-based solutions aligned with the principles of the green transformation.
Estimated time required to achieve the intended learning outcomes: 15 hours of lecture participation + 5 hours of preparation for the written post-test.
