Onboarding at UW 0508-ONUW-2-OG
Aims of the “Onboarding at UW” course:
● a student will acquire knowledge about life in Warsaw and formalities of settling in Poland
● a student will get to know better the structure of the university and the organisation of studies
The course is divided into 2 modules dealing respectively with adaptation to life in Poland and studying at UW
Module 1
• First steps in Poland include: accommodation, public transport, safety in the city, obtaining PESEL number and bank account;
• Formalities – focus on the legalisation of stay, health care system & insurance
Module 2
• Who is who – list of important offices and student services;
• Organisation of studies at UW (exams, forms of studies, breaks in studies, grading system, exchange programmes);
• USOS system – essential tool at UW (regisrtration for classes, types of courses, USOS mobile app);
• Financial suport and scholarships (exemption from fees,scholarships to start, Rector’s scholarhsip, social scholarship, scholarships for people with disability, assisstance grants, NAWA scholarships)
• Free time at UW.

Aims of the “Onboarding at UW” course:
● a student will acquire knowledge about life in Warsaw and formalities of settling in Poland
● a student will get to know better the structure of the university and the organisation of studies
Upon completing the course students will have:
The knowledge that will help them:
- understand the structure and procedures at the UW
- recognise exchange and mobility programmes available at the UW
- to get acquainted with different scholarships provided for the students
- be familiar with basic students’ vocabulary
- understand the most important obligations of a foreigner in Poland
Skills that will help them:
- address appropriate offices and units of the UW
- use the USOS in the course of study
- to be able to register for classes as well as differentiate type of classes available at the University of Warsaw
- apply for PESEL number, residence permit (if needed), and proceeding other formalities such as: opening bank account, finding accommodation, booking a doctor’s appointment
- apply for public health insurance and become more familiar with the health care system
Competencies knowledge that will help them:
- manage student life and obtain appropriate support if needed
- organise their stay in Poland (for example finding accommodation, getting around Warsaw by public transport and not get lost in the city, applying for public health insurance)
Assessment criteria
1. Access to the course is valid for 30 days. The course can be completed in a single session or over multiple sessions.
2. In order to complete the course you need to take a test and achieve at least 60% of the available marks.
3. You can take the test as many times as necessary to achieve the required result for the course.
4. After completing the course you will need to fill out an evaluation.
5. Individuals who complete the course and the evaluation receive a Certificate.
6. Grading guidelines:
100%-92% - 5 (very good)
91,99%-84% - 4.5 (more than good)
83,99%-76% - 4 (good)
75,99-68% - 3.5 (more than adequate)
67,99%-60% - 3 (adequate)
59,99-0% - 2 (inadequate)
