Economic and Political Problems of Poland and the World 4208-M2EKN-OG
The subject consists of two parts: 1) presentation by the lecturer of various theories and concepts in economics and politics as tools of interpretation of economic and political phenomena and as determinants of economic and public policy and international relations, 2) Presentation by the lecturer of current issues with possible discussions. Part one entails the following theories and concepts: 1. theories and concepts as tools of interpretation and guidance in economic policy and international relations, 2. theory of dynamics of civilizations, centre-periphery etc., 3. theories of stages of development, 4. theories and concepts of social Darwinism and inequality of races, 5 “geopolitics”, 6. nationalism, 7. modernity, 8. liberalism, 9. clash of civilizations, 10. socio-economic theories and concepts: (neo)liberalism, Keynesianism, Marxism, “”third-worldism” Parts 2 and three depend on current developments: analysis of important and characteristic events

In the field of knowledge Student
(1)identifies technological, demographic, cultural, natural and political factors shaping economic situation of Poland and the world (K_W08), (2) describes mutual relations between these factors (K_08), (3) analyses sources of processes taking place in economy and politics (K_W08). (4) describes selected theories and conceptions in economic sciences (K_W09).
In the field of skills, Student
(1( explains relations between spatial, economic, political processes in a given territorial context (K_U01). (2) uses theoretical knowledge to the analysis of economic and political processes in the form of oral presentations and participation in discussions (K_010).
In the field of social competences Student
(1)independently completes his/her knowledge and skills making use of interdisciplinary character of investigative approaches in the field of economic, political and geographical sciences (K_K07)
Assessment criteria
Conditions to credit students with the course: passing an exam after the course, answering chosen three out of five questions and receiving at least one half of possible points.
