Man in space-introduction to social geography 4208-CwP-OG
The course covers five thematic blocks:
1. Social Geography as a science (subject, theories, methods).
2. Population geography (distribution, vital statistics, demographic and epidemiological transition, migration).
3. Geography of settlement (form and structure, social ecology, local communities, urban geography, gentrification, suburbanization).
4. Geography of selected social phenomena (level and quality of life, poverty, unemployment, voting behavior, social segregation).
5. Social space of Poland.

Learning outcomes
In terms of knowledge, student:
(1) Specifies and characterises the major contemporary social processes in their spatial dimension . (2) Characterises the basic types of spatial transformations of social structures . (3) Describes the spatial differentiation of chosen social phenomena in Poland and in the world .
In terms of abilities and skills:
(1) Gives an explanation of the spatial conditions of the social processes . (2) Analyses the causes and the course of the main social processes and phenomena with regard to their spatial differentiation .
In terms of social skills:
(1) Can properly determine the priorities for action adopted in individual work .
Assessment criteria
Attendance at lectures (50 %) and a test covering material presented during the lectures (50 %). To pass (grade 3) it is necessary to get at least 60%.
