Second Language Teaching - using literary text in teaching English 4100-5SWTLJAO
The seminar is devoted to the issues of using the literary component in the process of teaching English in grades I-VIII of primary school. General issues, such as the general development of English (British) and American literature, and the importance of shaping literary competence in the foreign language teaching process will be discussed. These topics of literary age in the history of British and American literature will be discussed in more detail, the most important authors and their works, film adaptations of works, children's literature, especially songs and nursery rhymes, fairy tales, and known children's literature. In addition, the methods and techniques for introducing the literary component to learn English in primary school will be discussed.

Learning outcomes
After completing the course, students will obtain basic knowledge of British and American literature, with particular emphasis on children's literature, which they will be able to use in teaching work. In addition, they will improve their language skills, especially listening and reading comprehension. They will read didactic material devoted to the history of British and American literature and will become familiar with several characteristic literary works for children.
Assessment criteria
Assessment will be based on knowledge, the ability to associate facts, events and ideas in the field of British and American literature, independence of thinking and the ability to transfer acquired knowledge and skills in this field in spoken and written English.
Completing the winter semester:
30% - active participation in classes;
30% - presentation of the results of an individual project or
group (lesson plan with literary component;
40% - individual interview about a read publication
regarding British / American literature and / or the selected author.
Grade scale: 95-100 points - excellent (5+); 85-94 points - very good; 75-84 points - good plus; 65-74 points; good; 55-64 points - satisfactory plus; 45% - 54% - satisfactory; below 44% - unsatisfactory.
