Democracy in Europe 4003-SEM-LIC-MRS1
The aim of the seminar is to promote students to the license deegre in frames of very general theme of the « Democracy in Europe ». In course of the seminar students have an opportunity for individual studies of different issues of intelectual life (in terms of history, political theory, and political philosophy), social (i.e : social movements and other forms os social mobilisation), cultural (i.e. : different aspects of spiritual and moral life), as well as political (connected, for instance, with power mechanisms, understanding political ideas and other practices) in Europe.
The seminar lasts for two semesters and is based uniquely on students individual work with the leading professor. The seminar gives an opportunity for studing technical issues, i.e. : preparing drafts, learning the rules of writing an academic text, or constructing the footnotes and bibliograhy.

After completion of the course the student:
THE KNOWLEDGE:
- Knows the issues and the state of knowledge on selected specific issues related to the field of study,
- Appreciates the value of a variety of perspectives and opinions expressed in the various scientific traditions,
- Knows the principles of methodological writing dissertations,
- Knows the rules of technical writing an academic text,
- Understands the need for reliable documentation of scientific statements (footnotes, bibliography)
- Knows the basic ethical rules in research,
THE SKILLS:
- Is able to organize the workshop and plan the stages of work,
- Is able to collect, select and analyze source materials
- Is able to use the foreign language sources,
- Knows how to apply the methodology of conducting scientific research,
- Is able to independently develop and carry out a test
- Knows how to present the results of research and formulate conclusions,
- Knows how to edit the text of the thesis, and it carefully edited,
- Understands what the ethics in research and responsible for the accuracy of the results obtained,
- Able to work under the guidance of a tutor,
- Appreciates the value of independent scientific research
- Is able to identify their own mistakes and accept constructive criticism.
SOCIAL COMPETENCE:
- Knows that the value of individual work depends on its understandable presentation to others,
- Understands the responsibilities associated with the use of a variety of messages and formulating conclusions based on them,
- Respect for the achievements of others and points out that use it,
- Recognizes the value of independent research and scientific
- Understands the need to work under the guidance of tutor,
- Understands that the effects of their work must be clearly communicated to others.
Assessment criteria
Assessment of the seminar:
Semester I:
- attendance,
- Also generate research
- Identify the problem (and consequently the subject) work, work plan divided into chapters, collect literature and to build a proper bibliography, critical analysis of the material (state tests), select the keywords needed for effective search of material to make the description of the source when using and discussing parts source texts (notes) and the construction of the table, charts and other elements presented graphically, building glossaries and appendices (if necessary)
- Conscious of raising the competence of language, grammar and spelling, develop the skills of drafting and editing.
Semester II:
- Presentation at the seminar meetings following chapters work in the order of their writing and regularly consult their content.
Supervisor assesses: systematic work, the clarity of the plan and narrative, completeness theses, language and style, correct scientific workshop (bibliography, footnotes), original nature of the work, diligence editing.
The pass mark for the whole of the diploma seminar is to allow the seminarian to defend on the basis of approved work.
Bibliography
Due to the unique nature of the individual work while the seminar, the readings in each case are different. Common readings concern only the techniques and the “philosophy” of preparing research papers, i.e.:
