Philosophical and religious sources of affirmation 4003-EU2-SEM-BM
A most important role of the philosophy and religion is affirmation of the world with its suffering and its evil. The affirmation should lead us to a constructive attitude towards that suffering and evil. The main aim of the seminar is a discussion of the sense of affirmation and its different ways. The seminar is addressed to all interested in the philosophical and religious sources of affirmation such as contemplation, benevolence, elimination of destructive emotions, altruism and love (agape).
The main task of the seminar is the analyzis of the affiramtive thinking accepted by the West and East tradition, and the analysis of experiences connected with the thinking. The examples of the classical philosophical and religious texts suggest the existence of the two types of affirmation: the conditioned partial affirmation, and disiinterested and full one. The texts also help to examine the relationship between the affirmative thinking, and the evil and suffering. The affirmative thinking is able to avoid the metaphisical and the moral pessimism. The concept of affirmation will be confronted with different traditional conceptions of happiness. The way and language of affirmation will be discussed. The seminar should be interested for all those who want to widen their knowledge concerning axiology, ethics, the psychology of mystical expierience and the theory of happiness.
