Digital Society and Research and Innovation Policies of the European Union 4003-203EPSCBN
The course is presented as a lecture including active participation of Students, that's why it should be treated as compulsory. One part of the lecture will cover issues of the reserach, technological development and innovation policy, while the other one will cover the information and digital society policy. The following topics will be presented and discussed:
- general historical overview of development of a policy,
- stages of development of a policy,
- present stage and scope of development of a policy,
- role of a policy in the development of the European Union,
- key official documents of the European Union relating to a policy,
- basic information sources covering a policy (databases, indicators, information networks ect.),
- main European Union institutions active within this two policies,
- financial sources available within this two policies.
Students should participate actively in the class, that is to read and analyse certain documents and information sources and to present knowledge of its content.
Student’s workload: the reckoning covers 3 ECTS
lecture – 30 hrs
reading recomended literature and presentation of its content – 30 hrs
preparation to the exam – 30 hrs

After completing the course Students:
Knowledge:
-deepened knowledge of the activity of the European Union,
-deepened knowledge of the research, technological development and innovation policy and information and digital society policy of the European Union,
- deepened knowledge of the role of this policies in the economic and social development of the Europe Union,
- deepened knowledge of the mutual relationship and of the mutual dependencies of this policies of the European Union,
- deepened knowledge of documents and of advanced analytical methods and interpretation of data and indicators of this two policies of the European Union,
- deepened knowledge of chosen research methods and descriptive tools applied to present the European Union structures and social processes related to that policies,
- deepened knowledge of main information sources covering this policies.
Skills
- skilled at evaluation and forecasting of directions of development of reserach, technological development and innovations as well as the lavel of development of the information and digital society. in the European Union.
Social skills:
- skilled to communicate within the sphere of this two policies,
- skilled to undertake various tasks in order to its realization.
Assessment criteria
The final evaluation of the course will be on the bases of a written exam (with grades). A grade is included into the median of the whole MA course.
The prerequisites are: presence in the class during lectures (and knowledge of its content) including the active participation, knowledge of the content of the recomended literature and a positive completion of the discussion session (conversatorium).
