Academic Writing in English I 3700-WAR3-AL-OG
All stages of writing will be analyzed: from initial conception, choice of topic, formulation of a main claim, outlining the narrative and argument, drafting, and revising, revising, revising. Classes will be conducted as intensive workshops with students providing collegial feedback and editing each other’s work. Students will learn to write abstracts and to draft term papers. Instruction and writing will be in English.

K_U09 The ability to prepare in a mature and professional fashion a variety of written work: essays, scholarly theses, reviews, and research reports in English
K_U11 The ability independently to analyze written and oral texts in a creative and substantive fashion in English
K_K02 The understanding of the need for collaborative work as well as the principles and practices of such group work
Assessment criteria
During the course students will receive formative assessments of their work: constructive criticism and suggestions for improvement from the instructor. The final grade will be based on a combination of class participation (especially peer feedback), the quality of each student’s written work, and an exit interview.
