The History of Concentration Camps and Genocide. 3502-CPS-15-OG
The lecture will explore the sociological history of concentration and death camps, including their role in genocides. Various historical forms of concentration camps (from Spanish camps in Cuba to those in Bosnia and Herzegovina) and death camps (Turkish and Nazi) will be analysed. The lecture aims to expose the contribution that both types of camps had to broader social projects, including total and partial genocides. Social relations in the camps and the power and domination structures therein will be explored in depth.
