Philosophical Analysis in the Lvov-Warsaw School 3501-AFSLW18-S-OG
The seminar concerns the methods applied in the Lvov-Warsaw School (LWS), the Polish branch of analytic philosophy. Among members of the LWS there are: K. Twardowski (the founder), his students (among other: J. Łukasiewicz, W. Witwicki, T. Kotarbiński, S. Leśniewski, T. Czeżowski, K. Ajdukiewicz, I. Dąmbska) and students of his students. The LWS played a crucial role in the Polish philosophy of the 20th century. In recent years, we have been witnessing a renewed interest in the scientific achievements of the SLW in the world.
According to the current opinion:
(1) the members of the LWS were not connected by any common set of convictions but only by methodological attitude;
(2) in the methodological core of the LWS there were two postulates: the postulate of precision of speech and writing, and the postulate of appropriate justification of views.
The aim of the seminar is to verify these opinions and the hypothesis that in the LWS, there were some specific scientific methods that distinguish this formation from other analytic centers.
