(in Polish) Konwersatorium literaturoznawcze-Iz - Motywy antyczne we francuskiej literaturze renesansowej 3304-1DZ1W-KL-017-OG
The "Ancient motifs in French Renaissance literature" seminar is intended for students who are interested in Greek and Roman mythology and its influence on the creation of collective, not only literary, imagination. We will verify the common view that medieval authors were not interested in ancient motifs and were only discovered by Renaissance writers. We will consider why some myths turned out to be extremely popular and were used in many works from Antiquity to the Renaissance and later eras (e.g. the journey of Odysseus, Prometheus).
Selected topics:
-Mythological themes in medieval poetry (including Jean Molinet, François Villon)
-Mythology and ancient patterns versus aesthetics and Christian values
- Renaissance and the use of ancient culture resources, return to sources
-Reformation towards ancient culture
-Echoes of ancient philosophy in Renaissance literature: epicureanism, stoicism, skepticism
