analysis and interpretation of the literary text 3221-S1-1AIT12K-OG
During the exercises, we discuss selected issues concerning the complexity of interpretation of literary works. Various methodological approaches to the theory of literature are presented: hermeneutics, structuralism, poststructuralism, postcolonialism. The methods of analyzing and interpreting the text and its criticisms are discussed in detail. Theoretical issues are connected with interpretative practice, aiming at showing the multi-level understanding of the literary text and extending the interpretative abilities of students. During this part of the class will be analyzed various literary texts.

Learning outcomes
the graduate understands and has an advanced knowledge of:
subject and methodological characteristics of research in Belarusian studies as well as terminology used in this area
the most significant theories of literary and language studies
trends in Belarusian studies
methods of the analysis and interpretation of literary works in connection with the tradition of Belarus, Russia or English-speaking countries.
the graduate can:
prepare literary or linguistic analyses on his or her own, using relevant methods and research tools
use the terminology of literary studies in the process of analysing literary works
individually prepare presentations on literary and linguistic topics
present theories of researchers of Belarusian literature and the Belarusian language as well as draw conclusions about the development of the language and literature
manage individual and group work aimed at analysing cultural phenomena, including the ones related to Belarus
the graduate is ready to:
identify and solve dilemmas about the profession of a language specialist
situate new pieces of information in the right context and interpret them as well as think creatively
Assessment criteria
Final evaluation will take into account student activity, individual presentations, attendance and the oral exam during the material session
Form of the exam: oral
During the exam questions are asked covering issues presented during the exercise.

Student: characterizes the epoch, period or literary direction with the use of various determinants (philosophical, worldview, poetics etc.), calls the names of representatives (also secondary) shows detailed knowledge of the content of reading, conducts a comprehensive analysis (referring to the genre, structure and content), gives various research positions, places the writer's work and work in the historical and literary process. The statement is spontaneous, comprehensive, thoughtful, the student uses specialist terminology extensively.

The statement is fluent, the student uses specialist terminology.

Student: to a limited extent, after asking additional questions characterizes the epoch, period or literary direction, has a basic knowledge of reading content, conducts analysis at the elementary level (referring only to the content), only mentions some representatives of the field and their work, indicates only the constitutive features epoch, period or literary direction. The statement is broken; consists of unrelated information, the student requires guidance by the examiner.
Requirements for the 5th rating!
- 3 points for every question,
- meeting the requirements for 3 points and in addition: knowledge and skills outside the curriculum, reading knowledge from outside the reading list, references to world literature.
