Specific objectives: knowledge of the Russian literature and its European context, literature science methods and techniques.
Specific issues:
1. Global cultural studies.
2. Image of the European places, regions and countries in the Russian literature – examples, methods. Russia in the eyes of the West-European authors. Image of the Russian places and regions in the Russian literature – examples, methods.
3. East Prussia (Alexander Solzhenitsyn). Crimea (Adam Mickiewicz).
4. Hofstede Insights. Country comparison: Germany - Latvia - Poland - Russia.
5. Subjects of the thesis.

Learning outcomes
Knowledge:
− The student knows the selected research in the area of the global cultural studies.
− The student knows the results of the research on “The Petersburg Text” in the Russian literature.
− The student knows the results of the research on “The Crimea Text” in the Russian literature and the image of Crimea in the Polish literature.
− The student has knowledge on the image of Caucasus and Ukraine in the Russian romantic literature.
− The student knows the results of the selected research on the image of the West-European places, regions and countries in the Russian literature.
− The student knows the results of the research on the other selected issues related to the themes of the thesis prepared during the seminar.
Skills:
− The student specifies the subject of the thesis and explains the choice of methods.
− The student designs the structure of the thesis.
− The student gets the necessary information from the different sources and by various methods.
− The student prepares one chapter of the thesis.
− The student has the advanced research skills in the area of analyzing and interpreting of the literary work due to the dialogue of the cultures.
Social competences:
− The student understands a specificity of the literary studies.
− The student is aware of his responsibility for the preservation of the European cultural and literary heritage.
− The student is aware of the contribution of the Russian culture in the cultural heritage of Europe.
− The student is aware of the value of the cultural diversity and refers with respect to the signs of the interculturality.
− The student understands a notion of cultural prejudices and stereotypes and knows how to overcome them.
− The student indicates the priorities for the task.
− The student is aware of his knowledge and feels to be obligated to its further increasing.
− The student feels obligated to develop his own reading interests and is aware of his responsibility for the development of the reading culture.
Assessment criteria
Evaluation of the text (30%) and the bibliography
30 h (1 ECTS) - seminar
120 h (4 ECTS) - student's own work:
20% - library query
30% - analysis of the material
50% - writing the thesis (30% of the text, bibliography)
The student has the right to 2 unexcused absences, each subsequent one requires justification. The lecturer decides on the recognition of absence.
Exceeding excused and unexcused absences by 50% of classes may be grounds to fail the course. The conditions for passing the course on the resit exam are the same as on the ordinary of exam.
If it is not possible to conduct classroom classes, classes will be conducted using distance communication tools, most likely Google Classroom and others recommended by the University of Warsaw.
