History of Modern Art - lecture 3105-LNWPW-W13
Lectures presenting selected problems in European and American art from the 18th to the beginning of the 20th century. The issues of fundamental importance will be given a separate, monographic treatment - the romantic breakthrough (the poetics of ruin, the English portrait painting, Ossianism, the discovery of Shakespeare and Milton as iconographic sources, the works of Goya, the beginnings of the English garden, the neo-classical architecture, new types of landscape painting after 1800), as well as historicism in architecture of the 19th century, diverse forms of realism and naturalism in 19th century painting (particularly impressionism), symbolism in visual arts, the issues related to the World Exhibitions, engineering architecture, Art Nouveau, as well as the beginnings and development of the artistic avant-gardes till ca. 1918.
