ITER ITALICUM. Journey to Italy as a cultural challange. 3105-IPWK-OG
The topic of the lecture is the fascination of Italy in the modern European culture in general, but mainly Poland’s Cultural Relations with the Italian Peninsula will be discussed. The student will receive as lucid as possible presentation of the spiritual, emotional and intellectual links joining Poland-Lithuania with Rome and Italy – mainly in the Early Modern Period. Especially the evolution of cultural aspirations of the Polish nobility and gentry will be taken under consideration, as well as the reasons and motivations of the consequent generations of travelers from the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, who - in rather systematic way - were visiting Italy. Of course we shall also try to find out the cultural consequences of this phenomena and to identify the impact of the Italian culture on Polish realities.
