Underwater archaeology 3101-DWPODW-OG
The course presents peculiarity of underwater archaeology, including untypical methods of excavation, documentation and pulling out the artifacts, all in historical perspective. Most important sites are presented during the course, i.e., from the territory of Poland (i.a., medieval bridges from Ostrów Lednicki), Baltic Sea (wrecks W-5, W-6 and "General Carleton"),Scandinavia (i.a., wrecks of "Wasa" and "Kronan" ships), Mediterranean (i.a., wrecks of Uluburun, Cape Gelidonya, Mahdia, Antikithera, Kyrenia, Yassi Ada), Asia (i.a., wreck Nanhai 1), Africa and Americas. Learning outcomes
Student knows and understands (L6H KS):
in relation to the underwater archaeology an advanced level of selected facts, objects and phenomena as well as associated methods and theories explaining the complex dependencies between them, from the basic general knowledge of the academic or artistic disciplines on which its theoretical foundations are based, and selected issues from the specific knowledge relating to the study programme.
Student is able to (L6H SU):
use one’s knowledge concerninmg the underwater archaeology to formulate and solve complex and non-routine problems as well as carry out tasks under not fully predictable conditions by: properly selecting sources and information from them; conducting an assessment, critical analysis and synthesis of this information and selecting and using proper methods and tools.
Student is ready to (L6H CE): critically evaluate one’s level
of knowledge converning the underwater archaeology; recognize the value of knowledge in solving cognitive problems in that field.
