History and religion of the Inca state 3101-DW0017-OG
Course offered for Warsaw University students. Outline of a social, religious and political organization of the Inca Empire (Tawantinsuyu), which in the 15th and at the beginning of the 16th century covered an area of 1-1,5 million square kilometres and its population reached 10-15 million. The following topics will be presented as well: events (traditionally associated with the Spanish Conquista) that led to the fall of the Inca state in 1532-1539 and the development of neo-Inca state Vilcabamba on the eastern slopes of the Andes (1539-1572).

Knowledge:
Students will gain detailed knowledge of the pre-Columbian communities of Peru, including terminology, theories and methodologies in the archaeology of the Andean area (K_W05).
Students have a basic knowledge of the links between Incan cultural archaeology and ethnohistory (research of historical sources and ethnography) of Peru (K_W06).
Skills:
Students will be able to recognize different types of Incan material culture products including their context and carry out their critical analysis and interpretation (K_U10).
Students are able to detect simple relationships between artifacts and old cultural and social processes (K_U13)
Competence:
Students are ready to recognise the importance of material remnants, ancient languages and written sources as part of the cultural heritage of humanity K_K02)
Students are ready to accept a critical assessment of the interpretation of archaeological and historical sources concerning the Incas' culture with the awareness of the multi-facetedness of their interpretation (K_K04).
