What’s about polish movie? History of Polish Film: from the film school to th present day 2700-L-FAK-D-CZTF
The course includes theoretical knowledge that students will gain during classes. Will present the most important creators of Polish cinema, then streams and changing trends, phenomena in the Polish film from the times of the "Polish school" will be distinguished. The most important films that constitute milestones in the Polish film will be highlighted. The analysis of these films will be considered in terms of social, political, cultural or economic factors influencing the viewer's perception of the image. Will consider the artistic and commercial values of the films. To be able to distinguish movie genres and the message that goes along with them. An important and inherent element that will be presented during the classes will be - a film review present in industry magazines as well as general access - on the Internet. We will talk with students about the strength of the review, its purpose, idea and form when writing a review of the selected film from the time period provided by the teacher.
The first class will present the literature on the subject, assessment method as well as the general scope of the presented topic. We will start with a significant trend in the history of the film - the origin of the "Polish school" of its creators, propagators. And also the then-developing New Wave in Polish cinema, a world trend that changed the face of cinematography. We will consider the factors influencing the production, and the screening of films in the 60/70’s.
The next classes will be used to discuss the history of the 80's cinema - before the changes of 1989 and years ending the period of the Polish People's Republic. We will discuss changes in the policy of Polish cinematography, the omnipresence of censorship in relation to films, as well as any other restrictions applied to audiovisual art. Films from the PRL period will also be presented, the ones which have become part of the history of Polish cinema, recognized as a cinema of political propaganda, or simply as a iconic ones. Taking into account the creators, the actors of the Polish cinema of the 1980s.
Working on discussing subsequent films will allow to develop concepts in film theory, and the relation of the image with reality or emotional identification in the viewer-hero relation. A full cross-section of Polish films will not be presented, but selected images which help us analyze the most important phenomena, emotions, trends appearing or used in the film. Classes included screening fragments of the films chosen by the teacher. Texts will be given in advance in order to conduct an interesting discussion with students.
