Case studies in childhoods through an international perspective 2300-FKIP-OG
The seminar will address childhood studies as well as the methodology of ethnographic research on children and their reality. Sample practices of child marginalisation, discrimination and exclusion will be discussed, among them practices relating to education and social participation. The aim of the seminar is to introduce the students to the theory of childhood, childhood studies and children’s rights through international perspectives. In various social and cultural contexts around the globe, children are increasingly perceived as “partly competent” and “partly independent” agents of their social and cultural worlds. Hence, the seminar will focus on the analysis of the following subjects:
• Children’s and adolescents’ environments and life contexts as well as experiences
• Child rights through a multicultural perspective
• Childhood studies
• Intercultural differences between childhoods
• Migration, education and childhood
• Postcolonial childhood
• Methods of child and childhood research
• Children as researchers
• Global and local projects oriented towards children
