Practical classes on spatial analysis of hydrogeological systems (GIS) 1300-WPSHGIS-GES
The subject of the exercises is to familiarize students with the ArcGIS 10 software and learn how to use this software in practice by:
- free use of existing data in the GIS environment
- generating, entering and processing own data in the form of files saved in vector formats (point, line and polygon), raster and numerical formats
- ways of presenting output data (creating a resulting map composition with all necessary cartographic elements)
- design, generation and effective use of own environmental databases
- performing own spatial analysis projects in the GIS environment using elements of topology, knowledge of the reference system.

Learning outcomes
After completing the practical course, students work freely in the GIS environment. They can find (eg on the Internet) and use for their own purposes hydrogeological data and other spatial data, including those obtained through other GIS applications. They recognize the reference system in which the data is presented. They correctly perform spatial analyzes using, among others, manually entered data and the results of the analysis are able to present in a correct and effective manner, taking into account cartographic requirements. They can correctly design and create a spatial database.
Assessment criteria
Student should participate in every classes. Three excused absences are allowed provided the student completes the unaccomplished work on their own.
Projects are evaluated according to the pre-defined criteria (they must contain the necessary elements to verify the knowledge of the issues raised in the practical).
In the case of retake test, the student corrects all unsuccessful projects. They are subject to re-evaluation.
Practical placement
none
