Application of GIS in geology 1300-OZGG4W
Lectures are to introduce students to the scope of the basic concepts and applications of GIS in geology. Training takes place in a computer lab where students are to acquire practical knowledge of computer software used in GIS environment (ArcView, ArcGIS). The ultimate aim of the course is to provide knowledge about GIS in the range that it can in a practical way be exploited in preparation of the thesis by students.

Learning outcomes
Lecture “Application of spatial information systems (GIS) in geology” is to build (rebuild) awareness of the student towards seeing geological facts as geospatial data. Objects collected in this way will give the order in a relational database, which becomes the basis for processing (sorting or searching) field data and then visualize them. Student by listening to lectures and execution of a set of exercises acquire basic skills in GIS. They are self-sufficient to perform elements of the thesis supported by GIS.
Assessment criteria
The assessment of a student is by its activity in the lab and performed exercises.
