Practicum of structural geology 1300-OPASTC
Analysis of structural measurements and description of tectonic structures in sedimentary rocks. The exercises provide computer analysis of structural data, using professional structural software e.g. Stereonet, TectonicsFP, Geocalculator. Students work on own or prepared data like bedding planes, minor folds, fractures and faults. These data are statistically analized and presented in form of rose, point, great circles and contour diagrams. Using geometrical and genetical description of structures together with their statistical view, students compare data and give the answer about the origin and stages of evolution of the presented structures.
Type of course
Learning outcomes
Students have a possibility to learn various methods of data analysis in structural geology. It mainly concern professional software training in statistical methods and graphical visualization. They can also learn GIS methods in geology.
Assessment criteria
Preparing graphical visualization of structural data and its description.
