Water and sewage (waste water) management 1300-OGWS4W
The lecture is designed to familiarize students with the fundamentals of the water management, taking into account the principle of sustainable development, the way of implementation the tasks of water management in Poland and the European Union. During the lecture, students become familiar with the following topics:
- historical outline water management;
- water cycle in the nature and in catchment basin, the renewal of resources;
- the water balance in the catchment basin, water supplies and water resources, disposable resources;
- organizational structure, legal regulations of water management;
- methods and equipment used for implementations of tasks of water management, storage and transmission of water, water-power engineering, waterways;
- water consumption, demand for water in municipal management, industry, agriculture, types of water cycles and water transfer;
- water management planning, balance of water management, systems and modeling of water; water intakes, types of water intakes, water storage, reservoirs and water supply systems;
- water quality and its assessment, assessment of water suitability for a particular application;
- water treatment and methods of water treatment, disinfection of water, methods of household water treatment;
- sewage - definition and composition, parameters and indicators of water pollution, concentration and charge of pollutions, conditions of the transport of treated sewage to the environment;
- methods, processes and equipment for sewage treatment, characteristics of the degree of purification, household sewage treatment plant;
- after-treatment deposits management, methods of dewatering and disinfection of sewage, methods of management of after-treatment water and deposits;
- general problems of water management, water barrier of economic development.

Learning outcomes
The student: - knows the hydrogeological basics of formation of water resources and their protection, - individually analyzes the results of actions taken by the water administration in the field of water management and water protection; - recognizes the types of water administration activities, explains the decision-making rules and identifies appropriate action in relation to the determination of water resources, preparation of water balance, balance of water management, water management plans; - points out the ways and range of sewage treatment, so that the concentrations and charge of pollutions discharged into the environment do not exceed the environmental quality standards.
Assessment criteria
Written exam - knowledge of the material presented during lectures and recommended literature in the range indicated during the lecture.
