Description of main soil and ing processes against systematics of soils in Poland. Mineral and organic soils, paleosols, anthropogenic soils. Physical, chemical and biological properties of soils, including: density, porosity, grain size, water content, chemical composition of soil solution and air, respiration activity, oxygen content, thermal properties. Nutritions. Organic matter, mineralization and humification. Micro-organisms in transformation of mineral and organic compounds, Degradation and erosion factors. Soil recultivation.

Learning outcomes
Competence in planning and realization of field works, including: sampling of soils and peat cores, macrofossil analysis, determination of principal geochemical parameters in the field, preparation of samples to laboratory analyses. Competence in laboratory analyses: sorption capacity, total nitrogen, assimilable phosphorus, fertility of soils. Qualitative, quantitative and fractional analysis of soil humus, contents of organic carbon. Competence in elaboration and interpretation of results.

Evaluation of several field and laboratory analyses.
