The focus of the class is on the selected, pressing social issues in their spatial context. The selection of topics takes place together with participants of the class, based on a review of current problems and challenges relevant for the class. The topics are related to issues such as civic activity and participation in democratic processes, urban movements, discrimination and marginalization of social groups, gentrification and commodification of space, redefinition of work and its relationship with migration, new perspectives on rurality, expansion of new media etc.
The critical theory and research techniques developed in the field of ethnography form a point of departure for in-depth analyzes of selected topics.
Classes, in addition to discussing the substance of these phenomena, are aimed at student involvement in the issues under discussion, at exercising analytical thinking skills and at individual presentation of selected subjects.
