The environmental dimension of development 4208-PWRc-OG
The focus of the class is on the role played by natural environment in socio-economic processes. Main topics include:
1. Relations between environment and both economy and society.
2. The concept of sustainable development and introduction to environmental economics.
3. Main environmental challenges faced globally and in Poland.
4. Environmental policies pursued at various territorial levels.
5. Public administration’s instruments for environmental management.

Learning outcomes
In terms of knowledge:
(1) Discusses the environmental conditions of development at various territorial levels (K_W08). (2) Describes concepts and approaches to environment protection in territorial development (K_W09). (3) Characterizes environmental policy instruments by referring to examples of their use (K_W02).
In terms of abilities and skills:
(1) Analyses role of environment and its protection from an economic and spatial perspective (K_U01). (2) Explains the relationship between environmental processes and spatial planning (K_U01).
In terms of social skills:
(1) Takes on the various roles during group work on environmental dimension of development (K_K02). (2) Identifies and resolves dilemmas related to spatial dimension of the relationship between development and natural environment (K_K04).
Assessment criteria
The assessment criteria include: a) test of knowledge, b) activity during the workshop and assignments.
