Literature of German-speaking Countries in Outline 4103-L2C3
The course is divided into two parts followed by examinations after the third and fifth semester.
From the Enlightenment to realism (1700 - 1850)
1.1. The form and length of the course: one hour a week in a form of a lecture. The aim of the lecture is to provide the students with a theoretical and historical background for the History of Literature course. The course presents the basic literary schools, currents and tendencies, as well as their main representatives and literary works since the Enlightenment till 1880. The course is followed by an examination.
1.2. During the workshops accompanying the lectures we will discuss the main representative works for the literary period presented during the lectures: from Immanuel Kant: the notion of Aufklärung and G.E.Lessing: Nathan der Weise, Emilia Galotti, to J.W.Goethe: Faust I. as well as Kleist i H. Heine. We discuss various literary genres; a play, a ballad, a short story, a poem.
2. From naturalism to present times (from 1885 to 1990s)
The length of the course: two hours a week. Credit will be awarded on the basis of: attendance during workshops, active participation in workshops, as well as one presentation a semester.
