The course content
The objectives: the aim of the course is to familiarise the students with the cultural aspects of German speaking countries and to develop the skill of interpreting cultural phenomena. The course will emphasise crucial moment in the development of cultural currents, modern aesthetic doctrines, as well as the changes in the areas discussed.
The character of the course: workshops based on discussions and interpretations aimed at getting the students acquainted with the culture of German speaking countries and the literature in this area. The length of the course is 60 hrs. The students can receive credit on the basis of a final examination. Topics: the social history of the arts: architecture, music, sculpture, painting, the correspondance between arts, the main aesthetic doctrines,. Medieval art - Roman art, Gothic art, the Renaissance, Baroque, Rococo, Classicism, Romanticism, Biedermeier, Eclectism, Modernism, the 20th century.
