1. Erste Annäherung an das Thema "Phonetik"
a. Phonetik - ein Steifkind des Fremdsprachenunterrichts?
b. Aussprachefehler und ihre Wirkungen. Ursachen für Ausspracheschwierigkeiten
c. Welche Rolle hat die Phonetik im Sprachunterricht bei Ihnen gespielt?
2. Phonetik lehren und lernen. Lernzielbestimmung. Modellwirkung der Lehreraussprache.
3. Hör- und Sprechphonetik. Transkriptionsweisen.
4. Zur Geschichte der Kodifizierung der deutschen Aussprache.
5. Bau und Wirkung der Sprechinstrumente auf den Sprechvorgang. Atmung und Stimme.
6. Das deutsche Lautsystem. Grundbegriffe der Phonetik: Phonem, Laut, Graphem, Vokal, Konsonant, phonetische Umschrift API.
7. Allgemeine Charakteristik der Hochlautung, der Umgangslautung und der überdeutlichen Lautung. Sprechbeispiele aus dem Alltag - Vortragsstil, Nachrichtenstil, Interviewstil, Gesprächsstil.
8. Klassifizierung der Vokale. Das Vokalsystem.

Assessment criteria:
Attendance during classes is obligatory. During the semester the trainees acquire points for the completion of particular tasks assigned by the instructor according to the rules described in the syllabus. Trainees are given credit for the completion of a particular task if they acquire at least 60% of the maximum number of points assigned for this task. The trainees have to re-sit in-class tests which fall below the cut-off point of 60%, however, the number of points collected for a re-sit test cannot be greater than 60 % of the maximum number of points assigned for a particular test. The date of delivery of the re-sit test is appointed by the instructor. To receive credit for the whole semester trainees have to collect at least 60 % of the maximum number of points possible to be collected during the semester. The students who fail to hand in their portfolios will not acquire credit for the semester.
The distributions of points which can be earned for particular tasks in winter semester:

a) Attendance during classes - 1 P. x 14 = 14P.
b) Active participation, home assignments - 1 P. x 14 = 14P. (one penalty point for failing to submit homework)
c) 1 in-class test in the theory of phonetics- 20 P.
d) 1 short test in listening comprehension - 10 P.
e) 1 dictation - 5 P.
f) Assessment of phonetic competency - pronunciation:
" A piece of prose recorded on tape or a CD (3 to 5 minutes) - 30 P.
" Reading aloud in class - 30 P.
g) Portfolio - a folder comprising 4 parts
