Culture of Presentation 4018-KONW100
Culture of presentation prepares students for effectively using the knowledge and skills acquired in the course of their study. The course includes practical training: preparing individual oral presentations, team projects, and peer assessment of progress in the communication skills practised in class.
Proposed reading will provide a theoretical background and serve to develop a strategy for studying selected topics from a given course of study and preparing presentations, reports, participation in debates.
Students should gather their achievements from the whole year, written papers, experiences and thoughts in a portfolio.
Apart from attendance, students are expected to put in at least 30 hours of work in their own time.

Knowledge:
1. knowing the basic methods of interpreting a literary text and a textual historical source
2. knowing the principles of creating a presentation, preparing an oral statement and participating in a debate
Skills:
3. developing and communicating a presentation on reception of a work of ancient culture in later periods
4. taking part in discussions on cultural studies issues, formulating logical argumentation and critical conclusions
5. presenting the results of one’s own analysis of a simple research problem in oral form
6. being able to distinguish the main ideas in an oral presentation
7. preparing a written and oral presentation accounting for the different needs of the potential audience
8. expressing one’s thoughts succinctly and correctly and building a correct oral statement
9. preparing a public appearance – a report, announcement, multimedia presentation, contribution to a panel discussion, contribution to a debate for and against
10. taking care of voice hygiene
11. controlling stress during public speeches
Social competence:
12. understanding the need for and principles of group work, being able to work in a group both as a moderator and as someone completing a set task
13. being able to design and carry out an individual work plan in order to contribute to a class, according to the teacher’s guidelines
14. being able to reflect on one’s own work method, evaluate one’s progress in the culture of presentation and communication
15. understanding the principles of tolerance and cultural differences
16. knowing and understanding the main challenges of studying culture and relations between civilizations
17. taking part actively in discussions while respecting the views of one’s partners
Assessment criteria
Portfolio, assessment of the presentation, and participation in discussions.
Portfolio assessment criteria: completeness, level of self-reflection, merit of the reports.
