The lecture will comprise the following parts:
1. The history and essence of social policy
- 3 basic aspects of social policy: policy, area of knowledge, academic faculty
- the history of social policy
- methodology in social policy
2. Diagnosis in social policy
- the concept of social diagnosis
- sources of diagnostic data
- selected methods in social diagnosis
3. Organization of social policy in Poland:
- subjects of social policy- different classificatory frameworks
- local social policy – subjects, relevant institutions, objectives
- social services as a category of social policy institutions
4. Social services and selected social categories
- elderly people
- disabled persons
- the unemployed
- socially exluded persons
5. 6. 7. Social security as a segment of social policy
- genesis, evolution, contemporary problems of the social security schemes in Poland
- pension insurance scheme
- social security for disabled persons
- health care system: organization, financing, range of entitlements
Type of course
Learning outcomes
The student will gain knowledge on basic factors determining social policy, methods of social diagnosis, social policy institutions in Poland, the material and personal scope of social security in Poland. He or she will distinguish the key benefits and entitlements and their qualifying conditions. He or she should also be able to interpret social indicators, and analyze social policy legislation.
