The Perspectives of the EU Enlargement 4003-214PRUE
The initial part fo the course concentrates on pointing out the geographical potential for further enlargement of the EU. the focus is put on the Eastern and Southern dimension as well as the case of Iceland. The introductory presentation is followed by a detailed analysis of the potential of the states of further enlargement: Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Albania, Montenegro, Former yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Ukraine, Moldova, Armeria, Azerbaijan, Turkey. Eu criteria for enlargement are analysed and matched with the present political and economic situation of the above mentioned states. Strategic areas of cooperation are discussed: migrations, energy security, labour market, trade relations.
The course is summaries with the analysis of the institutional capacity of the EU for further enlargements.

At the completion of the corse a student can:

describe the key issues of mutual interestes of the EU and a state of enlargement,
present political, economic and social situation of the states of further enlargement in the context of its joining the EU,
analyse economic and political compatibility of the EU and states in question,
present criteria of the EU enlargement,
analyse economic and political conditions for the further EU enlargement,
analyse the institutional capacity of the EU in light of further enlargement,
discuss EU instruments of influencing the states of further enlargement
Assessment criteria
Students prepare an essay - completed in class over the time of examination.
