European security and defense policy 4003-213EPBO
Lecture is divided in two main modules:
I. International aspects of the European integration
II. Foreign/security policy of the EU
First module presents the main geopolitical, historical, institutional and legal determinants of the European Union's posture in the world, as well as its international position (by analysing the EU's economical, social and military potential) and its international roles.
Second module consists of analyse of foreign/security policy of the EU in the context of a wider category: so called external policy, which includes also economic relations. Analysed are history, evolution, phases and future developments of foreign/security policy, including main models and instruments. Last part of the module presents results of this policy, as well as perspectives for further strengthening of the position and role of the EU in the world.

Learning outcomes
Having completed the programme, students are expected to be able to:
- explain the essence of EU foreign and security policy,
- explain the functioning of the Common Foreign and Security Policy, and the European Security and Defence Policy,
- analyze and assess the evolution of EU foreign and defence policy,
- critically evaluate works concerning EU external policy.
Assessment criteria
Credit on the basis of a written exam in the form of a test consisting of open and closed-ended questions, with a minimum pass mark of 60% correct answers.
Practical placement
No practice.
