Diplomatic Protocol 4003-201PD
Protocol in public life, and Diplomaticv Protocol is an essentail part of it, is an integral part of our life today. It has a special meaning - and role - in contemporary era of constantly growing international relationships.
The course is concentrated on practical part of the Diplomatic Protocol. After a short historical introduction all necessary requirements of contemporarry diplomacy wll be presented, i.e. ceremonies, eitiquette, savoir vivre, state and offcial visits, dinners and partys, diplomatic correspondence, etc.
The course is divided on following 30 items:
1. Short history of diplomatic forms
2. Diplomatic Protocol - sources and terms.
3. Organization of Diplomatic Protocol
4. Precedency
5-6. Diplomatic missions (including diplomatic ranks)
7. Nomination of the Chief of Mission and his/her recall
8-9. Diplomatic immunities nad privilages
10. Consular immunities and privilages
11. Ceremeonies
12. Etiquette
13-14. Savoir-vivre
15-16. Titles and norms (including visiting lits, gifts etc.)
17-18. Diplomatic receptions - part I (how to treat the guests)
19-20. Diplomatic receptions - part II (the forms)
21. Suites
22. Orders and merits
23. Short diplomatic missions
24-25. Multilateral diplomacy
26-27. Diplomatic correspondence
28. Special missions
29-30. Consular missions and obligations.
Student's workload:
lecture - 30 hrs
preparation to the lecture - 30 hrs
preparation to the exam - 60 hrs
total - 120 hrs

Learning outcomes
After the course the students should:
KNOWLEDGE
- know fundamental principles and norms in Diplomatic Protocol (useful in daily life)
- better know the requirements in diplomacy, which could be usfeul in contemporary era of internationalized world
- be familiar with the functioning foreign service, also in its practical dimension
SKILLS
- be able to choose the behavior to a specific situation
- be able to choose the style of communication to a specific situation
- be able to choose clothes for a given situation
COMPETENCES
- be bettrer prepared to life on internatonal arena.
Assessment criteria
Witten exam, after receiving minimum 60 percent of required pointage.
