Political problems of the contemporary world are multilevel ones, so in their analysing one must take under considerations many different, cross-reacting elements of international order.
Most important problems would be presented in the framework of following topics:
1. International relations - general notions
- International relations as a field of study: subject, scope, analitical methods
- Origin and development of modern international relations - notion of international order
2. International order at the begining of the 21st century
- Terminology and institutions
- Forms of globalization and its evolution
3. Factors shaping international relations
- Typology of factors - main criterias of classification: determinating and acting factors
4. Main actors of international relations
- Notion of actor
- State and non-state actors
- Hierarchy of state actors
- Interests and influences of actors
5. Crucial global problems
- International conflicts and disputes
- Demographic problems
- Ecology
- Poverty and starvation
- Energy and resources
- International dept problem
6. Role of states in creating international relations
- Hierarchy of state actors - from superpowers, through regional powers to mini-states
- States' activity
- Notion and nature of foreign policy - foreign policy and internal policy
- Redefinition of state's sovereignty in contemporary international relations.

Learning outcomes
Having completed the course, students are expected:
in the field of KNOWLEDGE to know:
• crucial global problems
• interdependencies between different aspects of international relations
• factors determinating international order
• methods of eliminating political conflicts
in the field of SKILLS to be able to:
• explain nature of political global problems
• explain interdependencies between different features of international order
• describe instruments and mechanisms preventing global problems
• analyze actions taken by international actors to prevent and eliminate global problems
in the field of SOCIAL COMPETENCIES to manage to:
• formulate own opinions on political challenges facing contemporary world
• make a critical assessments of different information on political events in the world
• to show independence of thought in constant searching of knowledge and information on still-going changes in international relations.
Assessment criteria
Graded pass.
The final assessments is based on following elements:
- student's activity during the course
- making an individual presentation
- passing the written exam.
