This process will be described not so much as a series of historical events, uprisings and uprisings, creation of nation states and territorial changes, but as continuous cooperation between the sphere ideas, politics and broadly understood cultural changes. The point is to discuss national movements somewhat away from idealization typical of national-centric historiography, but also without falling into excessive criticism, as is often the case when discussing nationalism. The basic analytical framework will be the concept of three stages of the development of national movements developed by the Czech historian Miroslav Hroch, but appropriately enriched with such analytical approaches as the concept of the "invented tradition" of Eric Hobsbaw and Terence Ranger, the "imaginary community" of Benedict Anderson, or the stages of development of nations European Krzysztof Pomian. The topics of the lecture will be marked by various political and historical breakthroughs, such as Tanzimat in the Ottoman Empire, the Berlin Congress, the revolution of the Young Turks in 1908, the First and Second World Wars, and the fall of communism, which will be the closing clamp
