Group research project 3502-JIS-ILS
The aim of the course is to prepare and implement a team research project in the field of linguistics and/or cultural studies. The students will consult the teacher and then take a subject of their choosing. Subsequently, they will assign themselves roles and decide on the tasks to be performed and on the schedule. Students will be working individually and in groups, depending on the task, and the teacher will play the role of a moderator/facilitator. Partial results will be reported and presented in class after each milestone is reached. Once the project is finalised, a report will be drafted, presented and discussed in class (at the end of the semester).
The following working stages will form part of the project:
1. choice of the research subject
2. role assignment
3. collection of empirical material (if applicable)
4. choice of applicable literature
5. choice of methodology and project implementation tools
6. preparation of a project plan and schedule
7. preparation of an implementation scenario (if applicable)
8. analysis of the empirical material (or practical implementation)
9. analysis of the results
10. presentation of the results
11. preparation of the project report
12. discussion on further research questions / future research possibilities / subject extension etc.

K_W05 Has an in-depth knowledge of relations between linguistics, linguistics-related discourse analysis and social semiotics.
K_W14 Has an in-depth knowledge of the relations between social and linguistic structures and institutions, and among social aspects of building individual and group identity.
K_W16 Has advanced knowledge about man as a creator and participant of social and cultural discourses.
K_U01 Using various sources, the graduate can search, select, analyze, evaluate and integrate information on language, communication and discursive aspects of social life, and formulate critical judgments on this basis.
K_U02 Has in-depth research skills in linguistics, linguistics-related discourse analysis and social semiotics, including analysis and synthesis of theoretical positions, selection of methods and construction of research tools, management and presentation of results.
K_U03 Can independently acquire knowledge and develop research skills in the field of linguistics, linguistics-related discourse analysis and social semiotics, and undertake autonomous actions to develop his/her skills and manage his/her professional career.
K_U05 Can use the achievements of modern linguistics, linguistics-related discourse analysis and social semiotics in order to critically analyze and interpret cultural artifacts, intellectual and ideological trends.
K_U07 Knows how to use argumentation and persuasion, based on his/her own views and opinions of other social actors. The graduate can formulate conclusions and synthetic summaries.
K_U19 Knows how to critically select information and materials necessary for scientific work, using various sources (in native and foreign language at the B2 + level) and using modern technologies.
K_K03 Is ready to co-operate and work in a group, taking on various roles in it; he/she is ready to use the means of communication suitable for specific activities.
K_K06 Is ready to set priorities for the implementation of the task specified by him/her or others.
K_K08 Is ready to participate in the preparation of projects related to communication and social discourses.
K_K11 Is ready to search for new methods and sources to supplement his/her knowledge and improve his/her professional skills.
K_K12 Is ready to independently set the direction of his/her own development and training.
Ongoing assessment as per participation and involvement of each student in the implementation of assigned tasks; final report, presentations and discussions
