Basic concepts, theoretical problems of sociology of organizations. The concept of the institution, institutionalization and formalization of the organization. The objectives and functions of the organization. Classification of the purposes and functions of the organization. Organizational culture and its elements. Management in the organization. Contemporary research directions in the sociology of organizations. The spatial dimension of the local community. Theoretical problems of regional development and multi-factors of regional development. The region as a economic system, local labor markets. The local community, interest groups and social processes, changes in social structure. The idea of regionalization, the concept of local civil society. The theory of the creation of social reality. Philosophy of locality. Local communities in the light of sociological research. Local government as an example of a formal organization. What is local government, self-government - democracy - development of civil society. The territorial organization of the country, local government in Poland - the origins and history. The role of local government in creating regional and local development and activation of the economy. Local government and conflict resolution; origins and nature of the conflict, interest groups, methods of conflict resolution, regional and local lobbies.
Type of course
Introduction to basic terminology and assertions in sociology of organizations and local communities. The students get acquainted with theories regarding the analysis of the above mentioned subject and issues regarding development of local self - government in Poland. The students learn how to identify factors determining development of small regional communities.
