Methodology of literary research 3304-3MBL-3C
An outline of literary criticism in France in the nineteenth century and a panorama of the main theories in literary studies in the 20th century. Under the guidance of the lecturer, students will analyse critical texts in terms of their representativeness for a given trend:
1. the birth of modern criticism,
2. positivist criticism.
3. Lanson,
4. thematic and thematic criticism,
5. psychoanalysis,
6. formalistic approaches and structuralism,
7. poststructuralism,
8. sociocriticism,
9. genetic criticism.

Upon completion of the course, students should be able to:
1. use their knowledge of history and the theory of literary research
2. confront different methodological approaches
3. define key concepts in contemporary theoretical and critical discourses
4. identify the links between contemporary literary criticism and the humanities
5. accurately employ the main methods of academic criticism to analyse literary works of art, making use of concepts discussed in other courses with a view to drafting an MA thesis at the end of the course.
